Project Type: Alterations and Additions

This project involved contemporary additions designed to infuse a new aesthetic into an older style, weatherboard cottage. It was designed to cater for an owner-builder to carry out work progressively and still maintain viable living options throughout the process.

Distant mountain views to the west from the new upper level were realised via a new covered balcony which provided good shading to the adjacent rooms. Highlight windows and high, sloping ceilings were designed to give a feeling of space and light even into the internal corridor areas of the existing house.

A mix of materials including stone, blockwork and timber, together with sloping timber ceilings, has fused old with new seamlessly and created a contemporary home
